EMOTIONAL RESILIENCE TOOLS for LA’S Foster Youth

“We can’t change the hand we’re dealt, but we can change the way we play it.”

No one can win the confidence of system affected youth better than a peer who’s been through the system themself.

P.A.C.K.S.S. Curriculum

  • P - Personal Plan - Define your ultimate goal and build a clear path to get there

  • A - Awareness + Acceptance - Learn to accept your circumstances as a starting point, not a ceiling

  • C - Connection - Build relationships that support your growth and your future

  • K - Knowledge of Rights - Know what you're legally entitled to in the foster system

  • S - Structure - Create daily routines and habits that build toward a stable life

  • S - Stability - Integrate every tool into a foundation you carry with you for life

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

FLT x P.A.C.K.S.S. brings an 18-lesson emotional resilience curriculum directly into foster and group homes across LA County - delivered weekly, in person, by peer facilitators who have lived the same experience as the youth they serve. The program runs twice per year so every new placement has access to a full cycle. Sessions cover the 7 Fundamental Life Tools, structured life skills through the P.A.C.K.S.S. framework, and a dedicated module teaching youth their legal rights in the foster system - knowledge most have never been given.

STUDIO VISITS

Twice per program cycle, youth visit Indivisible Arts' Resin Art Studio in Hermosa Beach - where they're given access to fine arts, resin pouring, photography, music production, fashion design, and more, guided by a team of professional artists. For many of these youth, it's the first time they've been in a space that sees and celebrates who they are, and gives them the resources to express.

A proven model, brought to the youth who need it most

The Fundamental Life Tools curriculum has been tested and refined across 2,000+ youth in LA County since 2022.

100% reported improved ability to manage anxiety
100% reported stronger emotional regulation
92.9% reported improved overall mental health and wellness
85.7% report using the tools in everyday life

FLT x P.A.C.K.S.S. brings that proven framework directly into group homes.

About ISAAC MILSAP

Founder of P.A.C.K.S. Stability and Peer Facilitator of the Fundamental Life Tools

Isaac Milsap grew up in the Los Angeles foster care system. As a graduate of Da Vinci RISE High and the Fundamental Life Tools program, he took his lived experience, and with the help of Indivisible Arts, built P.A.C.K.S.S. - a life skills curriculum designed for foster youth, by someone who has been one. He now brings it directly into the group homes where he once lived.

About RAFAEL MCMASTER

Founder of LA nonprofit Indivisible Arts and creator of The Fundamental Life Tools

Rafael McMaster founded Indivisible Arts after his own journey through addiction and recovery - an experience that became the foundation for the Fundamental Life Tools curriculum. Drawing from twelve-step principles and culturally informed healing practices, Rafael built a mental wellness framework that teaches emotional resilience through creativity. He now leads FLT x P.A.C.K.S.S. as Program Director, bringing a decade of youth programming experience to the young people who need these tools most.
